SHERN
Born into the royal Borrister family of Upper Linnstrom, Shern was destined for a life of power and privilege. Prepared from childhood to inherit the throne, he was taught the arts of rule, diplomacy, and war, none of which resonated with him. While his tutors spoke of conquest and strategy, Shern found solace in the palace forests, listening to the rustling leaves and feeling the pulse of life beneath his fingertips. It was there that he first discovered an innate connection to nature itself. Plants grew at his touch and the wind would shift to his will with a whisper.
But his father, a ruler of iron and conquest, saw incantation as weakness. Several generations of magic had been wiped out of the family archives, but it's rumored that an ethereal warrior twelve generations back in his mother's line dealt the final blow to Oram in the Battle of Vhrain.
When the Prejic War swept through the Linnstrom kingdoms, Shern saw the suffering of his people firsthand. His father, unmoved by their plight, sought only to expand his dominion. Unable to watch his people bleed for a crown he did not desire, Shern made his choice. He renounced his claim to the throne and joined its people in battle. When the rubble cleared and all was gone, he somberly marched into the icy Grange Mountains, knowing well that no one there would recognize him – or care one way or the other if they did.
Shern developed and honed an unusual technique of compressing matter and space – then suddenly releasing it in the quick and lethal Air Crush. He is also capable of emanating a ferocious power from his staff that parts the skies, even on the clearest of days, to release a deadly cyclone of air which thrashes and turns upon his command. Possibly his greatest power though, is the ability to heal with nothing more than a wave of the hand, positioning himself as a central and desired member of any significant quest.
Shern has spent years wandering the hills, restoring balance where corruption spread and protecting the forgotten. Though he wears no crown, he holds the trust of the mountain people and the spirit of the land itself.
